1. What Palimpsest is
Palimpsest is a tool for studying biblical passages alongside their Ancient Near Eastern and Greco-Roman comparative context. It uses large language models to generate scholarly analysis. We provide it as-is, free of charge, as a personal project.
2. Accounts
You sign in with your Google account. You are responsible for the activity under your account. We may suspend or remove accounts that abuse the service (excessive API consumption, scraping, attempts to break the system, etc.).
3. AI-generated content
The scholarly analysis, quotes, translations, and commentary displayed by Palimpsest are generated by large language models. While we prompt the models to draw on verified sources, language models can and do produce inaccurate information, including fabricated quotes and citations. Always verify any claim against primary sources before relying on it for academic or pastoral work.
4. Fair use
You may use Palimpsest for personal study, sermon preparation, teaching, and research. You may not:
- Automate or script requests beyond normal human use
- Use the service to produce commercial products that compete with Palimpsest
- Attempt to extract API keys or circumvent rate limits
5. Your content
Your excavation history and preferences belong to you. You can export or delete them at any time from the settings panel.
6. Availability
Palimpsest depends on third-party LLM providers (Cerebras, Groq, Google) and Bible APIs. When these services are rate-limited, down, or changed, Palimpsest may be slow, partially broken, or temporarily unavailable. We do not guarantee uptime.
7. Disclaimer
Palimpsest is provided "as is" without warranty of any kind. We are not liable for any damages arising from use of the service, including but not limited to inaccurate AI-generated content, data loss, or service interruptions.
8. Changes
We may update these terms. Material changes will be announced in-app or via email. Continued use after changes means you accept the new terms.
